Youth Class Descriptions

Many children have started training at Austin Martial Arts Academy at a very young age and found it to be such an integral part of their education and development that they continued throughout their school years, even until college. Our program, however, is specifically designed to allow students to enter at any age and at any skill level. Our assessment lesson provides us with the information to correctly place your child in a class that’s most appropriate for them, physically as well as mentally. Additionally we limit class size to allow for the best student/teacher ratio. Private lessons are available to complement and/or supplement classes if necessary.

Tiny Tigers (ages 3-4):
The world of the Tiny Tigers is a magical and energetic place.  As any parent can attest to, children at this age have boundless energy and enthusiasm.  It is imperative that the children are given an environment and activities that are appropriate for this level of development.  Join us as we embark on an amazing journey of discovery and development through movement, games, music and lots of love and laughter.  Children will develop motor skills, coordination, focus, listening skills and the ability to interact with others.

Little Dragons (Pre-K, ages 4-5) and Power Ninja #1 (K, ages 5-7)
The emphasis of these entry-level classes is to teach focus (the ability to put attention on the task at hand regardless of inner or outer distractions), listening skills, coordination, brain/body communication, and motor skills through freestyle karate (blocking, punching, kicking) and grappling/wrestling.

Power Ninja #2, #3 &  #4 (K, ages 5-8)

These classes continue the development of the principles and martial art techniques of the entry-level classes. Students are now introduced to free style sparring - practicing their techniques with a partner in a controlled format. Children develop the ability to interact with others learning respect, sensitivity, and boundaries.

Samurai #1 & #2 (ages 7-12)

Children are now invited to attend class 2 days/week.  As well as deepening their training in free style karate and grappling, children are now introduced to traditional karate. The deep stances and precise movements build strength, stamina, focus, breath control, balance, and coordination.

Samurai #3  (ages 7-12)

At this level the students are invited to train up to 3 times/week. Children are introduced to more advanced training methodologies in Traditional/Freestyle Karate, Grappling, and Self Defense. As a result of increasing the training frequency and fine-tuning skills, there will be a huge leap in the progression of all areas of training.

Teen Class
The teen class includes beginner and intermediate students. The curriculum and benefits of the training are that of the other youth programs but the training is presented in a manner that is appropriate and enjoyable for their age. This class is also an excellent bridge for those moving on into our Adult Program.

Advanced Class
These students are taken to the next level of physical and mental maturity. This is usually the stage of training where students come to the realization that they are closer on the journey to physical and mental mastery.  These students experience a confidence that translates into their daily life allowing them to handle fearful and stressful situations. They learn the art of really going for something whole-heartedly with the only goal of being the best you can be and thoroughly enjoying the process.

Family Class (ages 5 and up-
Northwest Hills Location Only)
This class is an incredible opportunity for families to spend quality time together. While children and adults are each challenged as individuals at a pace appropriate for them, there is a sense that the family is growing and learning together. The class provides a wonderful bonding experience that extends beyond the training time.
