LIFE KI-DO MARTIAL ARTS CURRICULUM

Our Approach to Martial Arts

Life Ki-do training is very much based on a spontaneous flow of movements rather than rigid, pre-set techniques. In addition to being healthier for our bodies, we find this type of training prepares participants for the spontaneity of daily living. Instead of just memorizing a handful of specific techniques and responses to pre-set scenarios, students are actually learning to problem solve in the moment and deal with physical, mental and emotional scenarios that parallel what they are faced with in their daily living. The result is confident students who actually have firsthand experience in trusting their natural inner strength and ability.

Life Ki-do Martial Arts Curriculum

Life Ki-do is a unique blend of martial arts infused with universal life skills education. Incorporating aspects of traditional arts (Karate) with sport-oriented arts (Tae Kwon Do, Kickboxing, Wrestling, and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), combative arts (Systema) and internal arts (Tai Chi and Qigong), the Life Ki-do system develops well-rounded martial artists and human beings.

Traditional Karate:

The Traditional Karate aspect of our curriculum covers classical stances, punches, blocks, kicks, Katas (choreographed martial forms), and concentrates on developing form and the characteristic Karate "snap" and power. The deep stances and precise movements build strength, stamina, focus, breath control, balance, and coordination. This training also builds a great foundation for other physical activities and athletics, as it helps foster a deep grounding in movement.

Freestyle Karate/Tae Kwon Do/Systema:

This part of the program gives students the opportunity to develop their freestyle blocking, punching and kicking skills. Through specialized partner training, technical development, and free style sparring drills, students develop defensive and offensive strategies, sensitivity, timing, distance, speed and power. The freestyle kicking and punching ranges are a must to become a well-balanced martial artist.

Wrestling/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/Systema:

Ground training is a crucial component to a thorough martial arts program. Our students learn and practice: how to fall and roll safely, effective takedowns, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques as well as Systema strikes and breaks from the ground. Aside from the practical self defense benefits, ground skills can also greatly enhance a student's self confidence and ability "to go with the flow."
